The Charleston area office of Family Connection of SC is dedicated to serving the over 57,000 children with special needs in the Tri-County area. Based on the principle of parent-to-parent support, Family Connection improves the lives of special needs children by strengthening their families. Family Connection Charleston offers several family support and awareness programs, including:
Parent-to-Parent Support - Support parents provide emotional support and assurance through a careful match to referred parents.
Kid Connection - an interactive sibling workshop: Through fun activities trained professionals encourage children to explore their feelings and how to handle difficult situations that may arise.
Respite services - this program offers parents time away from care giving to refresh and reenergize.
Project Breathe Easy - an education and support to program assisting families who have children with asthma
Support groups and frequent family social events
Disability Awareness - an elementary school program teaching understanding and sensitivity towards people with disabilities
