Another Step for Our Families

Family Connection staff, located throughout South Carolina, are trained and accredited in Stepping Stones Primary Care. Stepping Stones is based on Triple P's positive parenting strategies.  Learn how to manage difficult behaviors using evidence based strategies. "Educating and empowering our parents is so critical to the success of all children," said Amy Holbert, executive director of Family Connection of South Carolina. "Thanks to the support of Children's Trust, our team now has another proven tool and resource to serve families statewide." To learn more or connect with these resources, call the Family Information Center at 800-578-8750.

Education Partners

As the state's Parent Training and Information Center (PTI), Family Connection provides Education Partners for families navigating the education system. Education Partners work to strengthen family engagement in a child's education by supporting, educating and empowering parents to learn self advocacy skills, problem solving strategies and effective communication techniques regardless of their child's disability, experiences or cultural background.

Families of children with disabilities, ages birth to 26, throughout South Carolina can be served by Education Partners, either in person or using technology. They provide individual assistance in preparing for meetings, including conducting case conferences, explaining provisions of IDEA and exploring options for resolving disputes. Latinos Making Connections: Parents Taking Action

The Latinos Making Connections initiative is aimed at better serving and identifying the needs of the Latino community. We work to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of Latino families in accessing community-based services for their children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. By connecting parents to others in their own communities, the children will ultimately have a sense of community, better health, education, and independence throughout their lifetime and the systems of care that support them. This service is provided in a clear, engaging way that allows Latino families to feel connected to their culture and language. The program is grounded in the philosophy that individuals who have shared experiences provide a sense of acceptance, understanding, credibility, and trustworthiness.
