Family Partner Program

Family Partners are parents of children with special needs who are trained to provide help to families whose child or children have developmental delays and are eligible for services through BabyNet, South Carolina’s early intervention program for infants and toddlers up to age three.  This early intervention program is designed to prepare young children for pre-school.

A Family Partner assists families in finding information and resources, and provides a listening ear.  Family Partners help families understand the planning of services to help their child reach full potential.  They provide support and assurance in communicating with service providers, the medical community, and other professionals.  They understand and encourage parents to realize that as parents, they are their child’s best and first teacher.

Very often, parents are only given basic information about their child’s condition without a plan for the weeks and months ahead.  Many times, you may need help coping with stress, so you can focus on the love and joy your child can bring to your family.  Children with special conditions need special care, and your child’s development may be different from other children.  You may want to talk to someone who understands your grief and concerns.

That’s where Family Partners can help!

Parent Quote:   “My family partner has helped me through the toughest year of my life.  She has given me emotional support, hope, encouragement, and most importantly, an understanding of the “BabyNet system.” She became my best friend and advocate and provided the silver lining in my cloud.”
