Head Start and Early Head Start programs engage families as advocates and leaders in the classroom and at home. Families are encouraged to join in all program activities, particularly through parent and policy committees and the Policy Council. When parents take on leadership roles, families, programs, and communities benefit. In this webinar series, new and experienced staff will learn how to support parents as advocates and leaders in programs and at home. It will focus on:

  • Best practices to engage families who are interested in developing their leadership skills
  • New approaches to creating culturally and linguistically responsive strategies that encourage diverse parents to build their advocacy and leadership skills

Research shows that fathers are strongly motivated to participate fully in their children’s lives, whether they live with them or not. Engaged fathers contribute to the well-being of their children, families, and communities. To promote these benefits, you first need to get fathers in the door and participating in activities that interest them.

In this first webinar, explore tools, resources, and ideas you can use to build a father-friendly program. Learn how to create an environment that actively encourages fathers to engage with their child’s learning and development. Review examples of program efforts that help fathers continue to build their voice as leaders in early childhood programs and their communities.

Topics for the webinar include:

  • Exploring the importance of developing a program environment that promotes fathers’ leadership
  • Preparing staff to successfully integrate father engagement into their programs
  • Sharing tips from programs that engage fathers as leaders and advocates in their work
