The South Carolina DD Council and the South Carolina Department of Disabilities & Special Needs are co-sponsoring a workshop on intellectual/developmental disability and dementia on February 24th in Columbia and March 5th in Rock Hill. These two additional workshop sites were added due to the enthusiastic response to the workshops offered in Summerville and Anderson last month.
This training is appropriate for any staff who works with adults with I/DD at risk of or who have developed dementia. Topic areas are listed on attached flyer.
A limited number of $60 discounted registrations are available at each workshop site on a first come- first served basis.
This workshop is based on the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices (NTG) national model training curriculum on I/DD and dementia and is led by Kathryn Pears, Dementia Care Strategies, who is co-chair of the NTG training and education committee and co-lead trainer for NTG national workshops. A certificate of contact hours will be given to each attendee.
Attendee feedback from prior workshops has been extremely enthusiastic. This is a great opportunity for affordable training that will prepare staff to understand and care for their aging clients with dementia.
