Mental Health for Children: How We Can Best Meet Their Needs
Dr. Carlie Rhoads
Increasing numbers of children are experiencing difficulties with mental health and more specifically with experiencing trauma. This webinar talks about how to develop strong attachments with children, how to foster healthy brain development, and what we can do when our children experience a traumatic event. Medical trauma, which really affects children with deafblindness and other disabilities, will also be explored.
Dr. Carlie Rhoads serves as the current director of the Oregon Deafblind Project. She previously worked as a special educator and a teacher for students with visual impairments, and has nearly ten years of experience working with children with sensory impairments. Her doctorate is in special education with an emphasis on research and sensory impairments, and her current research interests are in coaching educational professionals and exploring medical trauma in children with deafblindness.
