Staff Training Opportunity- Developmental Disabilities & Dementia

January 16 at 9:00 am - 4:30 pm EST

This popular workshop is for all DD or aging agency staff with direct or ancillary care responsibilities for adults at risk of or diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Family members are also welcome to attend. Attendees will learn:

  • how to recognize the onset of dementia in an adult with DD
  • why early (and correct) diagnosis is so important to program services
  • conditions that mimic dementia – but are treatable
  • the 4 most common causes of challenging behaviors
  • how to communicate effectively and avoid confrontations
  • techniques to manage resistance to bathing, agitation, sundowning, etc.
  • easy and inexpensive home modifications to support function and independence
  • end-of-life considerations
