Delaney Johnson lights up a room with her warmth, kindness, and quiet confidence. Though she may seem shy at first, it does not take long before she is singing along to Taylor Swift, dancing with her friends, or making someone laugh with her playful spirit. At 13, she has already shown how capable and determined she is—and how much joy she brings to everyone around her.
From the very beginning, Delaney’s journey has been marked by strong advocacy and unwavering support. Diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth, her family was quickly introduced to Family Connection. Since then, her family has worked tirelessly to ensure she is included in general education classrooms—without modifications—and their efforts have paid off. Now a middle schooler, Delaney has made the A/B Honor Roll, showing what’s possible when students are given the opportunity to rise to high expectations. Her family steadfastly promotes inclusion for students, and they remain committed to opening doors—not just for Delaney, but for others like her. Outside of the classroom, Delaney shines in therapy sessions, social clubs, sports, and even cotillion, where her younger brother, Walker, escorted her and served as her charming dance partner.
Her family dreams of a future where she is seen for all she has to offer—living independently, building meaningful relationships, and following her passions. With the determination and heart she shows every day, there is no doubt she is off to a great start!
