From the beginning, Haidyn was ready to make a memorable entrance into the world. Affectionately nicknamed the “Diva” while still in utero, she was determined to make her presence known. At just 24 weeks gestation, signs of her strong personality were already shining through. Despite the efforts of multiple specialists, she arrived at 29 weeks, weighing only two pounds. Even as a tiny preemie and diagnosed with Trisomy 21, she demonstrated incredible resilience—coming off oxygen by three weeks old, pulling out her own feeding tube three times, and rolling over on her own. NICU nurses quickly recognized her as a strong-willed, sassy little fighter.

Now 10 years old, Haidyn thrives as a vibrant, confident child who brings laughter and energy to all of her surroundings.

As the youngest of three siblings—with her sisters now in their mid-twenties, Haidyn holds a unique and cherished place in her family. The journey has brought its share of challenges, especially with communication. Due to speech limitations, the family embraced new tools and strategies, such as American Sign Language, picture cards, and communication apps. They have worked closely with educators to tailor Haidyn’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to match her learning style, ensuring her academic experience is both supportive and empowering. Life for the family has been thoughtfully rearranged to center around Haidyn’s needs and potential.

Haidyn’s personality is infectious. She is talkative, humorous, and deeply empathetic. She does not meet strangers—only future friends. In a waiting room during a recent doctor’s visit, she sang and danced for elderly patients, receiving grateful applause. While getting her COVID vaccine, she comforted older children who were scared. Whether at school, church, or community events, Haidyn is a familiar face known for her hugs and her heart. Even at festivals, police officers and community members greet her with warmth and excitement.

She enjoys dancing, listening to music, and indulging in McDonald’s French fries. Haidyn has inspired her sisters to be braver and more compassionate, and she keeps her mom young at heart. Her family passionately believes that children with Down syndrome are God’s angels—meant to spread joy. Haidyn has the rare gift of turning any space into a brighter one, simply by being herself.
