Henry is a kind, selfless, and loving 6-year-old boy. He shows and feels empathy towards those around him. He has an innate ability to recognize things of importance to others. One example of this was a time in which he followed his teacher around with her coffee cup because he knew it was something important to her.
Henry was born prematurely at 37 weeks and spent time in the NICU. Around 9-months-old, his parents realized that he was not meeting all of his developmental milestones, including some of his speech and motor skills. Henry received a diagnosis of autism at 3 and a half years old. Once he started school, he was able to master his IEP goals ahead of schedule. He now receives minimal resource time in kindergarten, something his family never imagined being a possibility.
Henry’s kindness and determination help him as he works to achieve and surpass his goals. He has made incredible strides with his development and continues to amaze his family as he does so. Henry knows he has autism, and he also knows autism does not define who he is and sees no limits to the life he can lead.
