At five years old, Will Kunze has already inspired his family, friends, and community with his joy, resilience, and unstoppable spirit. Whether he is swinging in his sensory swing, splashing in the pool, or smiling on a boat ride, Will finds delight in life’s simple moments—and he shares that joy with everyone around him.
Will began early intervention at age two, when his family had concerns because he was not yet speaking. He soon began occupational and speech therapies. Over time, he was diagnosed with autism, fine motor delays, sensory processing disorder, and epilepsy. He has undergone numerous medical procedures including a three-day hospital stay. Some days are hard, especially when Will struggles to communicate his needs or emotions. But he has a way of reminding his family what really matters. He gives the best hugs and kisses to those he trusts, and his church family beams with pride as they watch him grow.
Will learned to swim at a club that focuses on providing lessons to individuals with special needs. One of his proudest moments came last summer when he was able to show off his swimming skills on a segment of Palmetto Life on a local news station. When he is not mastering his swimming skills, he is working diligently in speech and occupational therapies. He also attends a pre-K program.
Will has changed his family in the best way, teaching them compassion, patience, and new ways to connect. His parents hope the world will see him for who he is: capable, bright, and worthy of every opportunity to show the world the absolute best of himself.
