If there is one thing to know about T.J. McGill, it is that life with him is never boring! T.J. brings a wonderful blend of humor, curiosity, and determination to every day—and to everyone lucky enough to know him.
T.J. was diagnosed with autism at a young age and always demonstrated a natural drive to explore the world his own way. He meets challenges head-on, inspiring those around him to do the same.

One of the highlights of T.J.’s journey has been his participation in Special Olympics, proudly earning numerous ribbons and making memories along the way. Although he is nonverbal, T.J.’s love of learning shines through in surprising ways—like when he started understanding basic Spanish words, proving that communication is not just about speaking. T.J. has a way of understanding and connecting that goes beyond typical expectations.
At home, T.J. is known for his playful side. If he hears someone coming, you can bet he will dash away to hide behind a door, waiting with a huge grin. He is full of affection—hugs are one of his specialties—and his laughter fills every space he is in. Other times, he likes to enjoy his own company, peacefully exploring his iPad or relaxing after a day of adventure.

One of the moments that makes his family beam with pride was when T.J., picked out a stuffed animal for his sister while on a family trip, and he chose her favorite animal on his own. His thoughtfulness and patience continue to create some of their most cherished memories.

T.J.’s favorite things include traveling—especially cruises! He has even been known to pull up the Autism on the Seas app, ready to plan the next adventure. He also loves going out for a sit-down meal, completing puzzles, and, of course, shopping for treasures.

Beyond the laughter and travels, T.J. has taught his family patience, deepened their compassion, and opened doors to friendships and experiences they never expected. His sister was inspired to pursue a career in autism research and advocacy because of the impact he has made on her life.

Looking to the future, his family hopes T.J. will have the opportunity to work in the community in a way that brings him pride and joy. No matter where life leads him, they know he will meet it with the same determination and heart he shows every day.
