Michi is a bundle of everything smart, spunky, and strong-willed. Whether she is dancing to Colombian music, playing with her grandfather, or following her early morning therapy routine, she brings an energy that is joyful. She has a way of winning people over and has become a bit of a celebrity in her community, school, and therapy centers.

Michi’s journey began with a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome, and her family quickly jumped into action to ensure she received the support she needed. Over the years, Michi has faced her share of challenges, including the frustration that comes with not being able to communicate verbally, and a fragile immune system that often leads to hospital stays.

One of her proudest moments? Being named Student of the Month twice: first in her very first month at school, and again in the first month of her second year. Her mother beams with pride when describing how quickly Michi picks up on new things. She is incredibly independent, helping with chores, dressing herself, and managing her own routines.

Michi has completely transformed her family’s world. She has taught them the value of patience, the strength found in faith, and the power of unconditional love. Her mother says her daughter inspires her to advocate for Michi, and for all children with special needs.

Looking ahead, her mother dreams of a future where Michi continues to grow in independence and confidence and maybe even become a student at Clemson University. The family already has the cheerleading outfit ready!
