The best way to describe Beverly is being sweet as sugar. She is a hard-working and happy-go-lucky girl who shines in the classroom with her organizational skills and attention to detail in her assignments. She is a huge reptile fan, having four bearded dragons and a pet snake, and has even met two of her reptile role models: Ed and Emily from Snake Discovery in Minnesota. Beverly also enjoys gymnastics, music (especially Taylor Swift), makeup, and riding her bike with her dad and sister.
Seven years ago, Beverly and her family spent their Spring Break in the hospital, where she battled bacterial meningitis and a septic hip. During that time, they discovered Beverly had permanently lost her hearing in both ears. Beverly has since been thriving using her cochlear implants and American Sign Language. She is a bright light in her family and is proud to be deaf.
Beverly began gymnastics this year and has excelled in developing her skills. Although she has made great progress in many areas, she has struggled with staying on the balance beam. At a recent audiologist visit, it was determined that the bacterial meningitis also caused a significant balance disorder, and she was diagnosed with vestibular hypofunction. Through it all, Beverly is a force to be reckoned with in therapy and continues to give her all, as she develops her skills on the balance beam.
Excitingly, Beverly recently won Student of the Month for representing the character pillars of honesty and integrity. Her character shines through in all that she does, and her family is extremely proud of her and knows she will move mountains one day.
