Brooks is a kind, laid-back little boy who is always happy. He loves playgrounds, Blippi and spending time with his family. Even though therapy is not his favorite thing, he smiles and pushes through every time. He is always up for a good high-five and enjoys escorting his therapists to the door as they leave.
Diagnosed with a rare genetic syndrome called Phelan Mcdermid Syndrome, Brooks took his first steps shortly after his third birthday – he worked so hard to reach this milestone, and his family is so proud of him!
Brooks’ family was first introduced to Family Connection because of TEFRA and parent support. It had been challenging navigating the educational system, advocating for his IEP, and homebound services.
Brooks has medication-resistant seizures, so his family has spent quite a bit of time intensive care. He always bounces back after a difficult hospital stay and has learned that slow and steady progress is important, that all accomplishments, no matter how big or how small, are a big deal.
Another challenge has been navigating the educational system, IEPs, and homebound services. Brooks’ family was first introduced to Family Connection because of TEFRA and parent support.
Brooks’ family says he is a blessing and has already changed so many lives – and he’s just getting started!
