Daisy is tiny but mighty and full of life! She is smart and capable – you just have to let her show you. She is high-spirited, loving, wild, empathetic, loud, ambitious, sweet, stubborn and very dramatic. She loves to dance, sing, climb, draw, swim, cook, and, of course, watch her iPad and TV.
Daisy and her family celebrate each and every milestone, regardless of how small it may seem. She overcomes challenges by not giving up. Her parents overcome challenges by advocating relentlessly.
She has faced many physical challenges due to Down Syndrome and developmental delays that require specialists, therapists, and surgeries. Her family has seen how cruel the world can be to those who are viewed as different. They’ve also tackled the challenges of the educational system.
Daisy works harder than most and wants to succeed at everything she tries – like when she sat up for the first time and walked for the first time. Her parents are so proud of her when she walks into a room and speaks to everyone – they call it her Hello and Goodbye Tour. Daisy was chosen to be in the National Down Syndrome Society slideshow on the Jumbotron in Times Square for the 30th anniversary of the NYC Buddy Walk and her parents loved seeing her beautiful face light up.
Daisy’s family knows she’s going to be somebody and their hope for her is to have the freedom, ability, and resources to be who she wants to be. They want her to be judged on her merits and not her disability, and they hope for a world that embraces difference and beauty in those who are different.
