Daylon, who also goes by doodle, monkey, or chunk, is a little goofball who is full of love. He will approach the people in his life and tell them a joke that he just made up. He also loves to make sure everyone around him is okay by checking in with them regularly. He has a huge imagination and creates silly scenarios for games. Happy and full of smiles and giggles, almost everything makes Daylon laughโ€”and his laughter is so infectious that everyone who hears it cannot help but smile and laugh along with him.
At the age of four, Daylon was diagnosed with epilepsy. He also has developmental delays and asthma. He struggles with seizures, but he asks questions so he can learn more about how his condition works and he is sometimes able to warn his parents when a seizure is coming. His parents are also learning how to manage his medication and keep him on a routine that makes his life easier.
Daylon loves going hiking and visiting the park and playground. He is happiest when the whole family goes along. He is passionate about exploring and learning new things. He is frequently asking questions about everything that is going on around him. He also enjoys being at the racetrack where his dad drives. His mother proudly recalls a visit to the track when Daylon had a seizure but was able to stay calm enough to communicate effectively with the ambulance staff. This was especially significant, as he had to ride alone in the ambulanceโ€”separated from his mother, Chelsea, who had to drive to the hospital with his siblings.
Chelsea says her son has made their family full and has changed how they approach life and other people, reminding them that you never know what someone else may be going through. He has transformed how they live their daily lives, opening their eyes to challenges and considerations they would never have thought about before Daylon came into their lives.
When thinking of the future, Chelsea hopes Daylon has a long and beautiful life, and that in his own quiet way, he shows others that even when your body is fighting against you, you can still be a meaningful and inspiring example to others.
