When your child turns 3, they transition from early intervention services (Part C/BabyNet) to school-based special education services (Part B). This shift moves services from home-based and therapy-focused to school-based and education-focused, with a new IEP team and different eligibility criteria.

Developmental milestones are things most children can do by a certain age, such as taking a first step, smiling for the first time, and waving “bye bye”. Children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, act, and move.
Screening can identify your child’s strengths, uncover new milestones to celebrate, and reveal any areas where your child may need support. It helps you understand your child’s development and know what to look for next. A developmental screening tool does NOT provide a diagnosis for your child. If the screening tool identifies an area of concern, a formal developmental evaluation may be needed.
