Amy Holbert receives check from Modern Woodmen

(Columbia, SC, November 10, 2021)—Family Connection of South Carolina received a $2,500 donation from Modern Woodmen of America chapter 12214 in support of Buddy Walk 2021.

Buddy Walk is an annual community event held in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month each October. The event supports the vision of the National Down Syndrome Society to help create a world in which all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life, realize their life aspirations, and become valued members of welcoming communities. Funds raised through the Columbia Buddy Walk also help Family Connection provide services and resources to families across South Carolina who have a child with a disability or chronic health condition.

“We are grateful for the support of Modern Woodmen for this year’s Buddy Walk” said Amy Holbert, CEO of Family Connection of South Carolina. “Their donation helps Family Connection continue to promote inclusion, equity, and community for the families we serve.”

The Matching Fund Program offers Modern Woodmen members nationwide the chance to show their support for a community cause, organization, or individuals in need through fundraising events. These fundraising projects contribute more than $10 million to community needs across the country each year.

This year’s Buddy Walk multi-day virtual celebration and awards ceremony was presented on October 22 – 24, and can be viewed at https://www.familyconnectionsc.org/buddy-walk/. Donations are still being accepted and the 2021 Buddy Walk T-shirt can be purchased on the web page.

Buddy Walk 2021 was presented by Zingers Fencing. Additional event sponsors include Edible Arrangements, Modern Woodmen, Willoughby & Hoefer, Thompson & Hiller Defense, Richland/Lexington Disabilities and Special Needs Board, Talk Tools, Special Olympics, Phyllis Perkins, Midlands Therapy Services, Compugroup Medical, Dr. Susan Thomas, Easterseals, HealthLinks Magazines, and B106.7 FM.
